Intraoperative Ultrasound Video (2017)

Member only benefit! The Doppler and Advanced Techniques presented will instruct participants in the physics, machine settings, probe options and techniques for performing intraoperative ultrasound in the practice of urology. The use of ALARA in the performance of intraoperative ultrasound will be discussed. The surgical techniques for achieving optimal visualization and three-dimensional understanding of urologic anatomy will be discussed. The clinical indications and contemporary capabilities for the performance of intraoperative ultrasound will be presented.

This activity satisfies the AIUM requirement - "The physician should complete 10 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ specific to genitourinary ultrasound every 3 years."

Pre-Requisite:

It is expected that participants are urologists or urology residents and will have completed the full day Ultrasound course and the three modules on ultrasound of the abdomen, prostate and male genitalia prior to participating in this educational activity.

  1. Identify the clinical indications for the performance of intraoperative ultrasound.
  2. Describe the techniques for optimal imaging using contemporary intraoperative ultrasound probes.
  3. State the principles associated with ALARA for the use of ultrasound.
  4. Indicate the modifications in traditional ultrasound technique that are required for the performance of intraoperative ultrasound.
