Khurshid Ghani, MD
Khurshid R. Ghani, MBChB, MS, FRCS is Professor of Urology at the University of Michigan, and the Director of the Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC). After graduating from the University of Leeds, Dr. Ghani completed surgical and urological training in Edinburgh and London. He was awarded a Master of Surgery thesis from the University of London for research on percutaneous renal stone surgery. He undertook a minimally invasive surgery fellowship at the Vattikuti Urology Institute in Detroit, Michigan, following which he joined the University of Michigan. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles, and is the co-author of Endourology: A Practical Handbook. Dr Ghani’s research interests are endoscopic stone surgery and quality improvement. He has been focused on advancing a Dusting technique for ureteroscopy and has extramural funding to study laser lithotripsy in the laboratory. He is the Course Director of the Developments in Ureteroscopic Stone Treatment (D.U.S.T.) symposium. As Director of MUSIC, he leads a physician-led collaborative comprising over 260 urologists and 46 practices across Michigan, with the goal to improve the quality of care for patients with prostate cancer, kidney stones and kidney cancer. He serves as an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Urology, the Endourology Section Editor for the Urology Video Journal, and is on the advisory board of Nature Reviews Urology.
