Michelle Van Kuiken, MD
Dr. Michelle E. Van Kuiken is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) with subspeciality certification in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. She completed urology residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago followed by fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery (formerly Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery) at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Her clinical interests include all aspects of female pelvic floor reconstruction including both the surgical and non-surgical management of pelvic organ prolapse, management of urinary tract and vaginal fistulae, female urethral conditions including diverticula and stricture, and transvaginal mesh complications. She also specializes in both male and female lower urinary tract dysfunction including overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, urinary retention, recurrent urinary tract infections, neurogenic bladder, and pelvic/bladder pain syndromes.
At UCSF, Dr. Van Kuiken serves as the Associate Residency Program Director along with the Associate Chair of Faculty Wellbeing. Her research interests include examining work-life balance issues that impact urologists, with a particular focus on early-career urologists and women in urology, along with understanding large-scale practice patterns in the treatment of Overactive Bladder.
