Robotic Urologic Surgery: A Technical Masterclass Webcast (2018)

Robotic Urologic Surgery: A Technical Masterclass provides a structured approach to advanced robotic surgery for conditions of the prostate, kidney, and bladder with an emphasis on radical prostatectomy and partial nephrectomy. This course will also focus on emerging technologies including genomic testing and advanced imaging. Experienced world-class faculty with more than a decade of experience with complex robotic surgery will provide you with instruction to refine your technique and achieve superior results.

The first day will focus on prostate surgery. Specific surgical techniques will be presented in a step-by-step operative outline. Includes issues such as optimizing outcomes of robotic radical prostatectomy, discussing complications, and tips and tricks of challenging cases. High Definition live transmission of robotic radical prostatectomy by Dr. Vipul Patel will include recent modifications in technique. The second day will be devoted to kidney surgery and bladder surgery. The course will include multiple video segments demonstrating tips and tricks, management of anatomic anomalies and challenging situations, with expert faculty to provide commentary and discussion. Audience participation will be encouraged to ensure one on one interaction. Panel discussions with expert faculty will address methods to recognize and address complications and problems for each of the surgical procedures.

    Learning Objectives

    At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

    1. Examine and analyze the surgical techniques and methodology behind complex robotic urologic cancer surgeries such as prostatectomy, cystectomy and partial nephrectomy.
    2. Assess the key complications and outline the intra-operative and post-operative management related to robotic surgery procedures using video-based learning, surgical video and live surgery and expert panel discussion.
    3. Demonstrate current and upcoming protocols for regaining potency and continence following robotic prostatectomy and cystectomy.
    4. Provide a clinical update on treating, diagnosing, and managing complications of localized, regionally advanced, and metastatic urinary cancer.
    5. Provide a clinical update on emerging technologies in prostate cancer including MRI Fusion Biopsy, single port surgery, and genomic testing.
    6. Apply the surgical techniques and methodology behind complex robotic cancer surgeries including partial nephrectomy, robotic prostatectomy, and nephroureterectomy.
